What is “YWETS”?

Objectives of the Scheme To provide on-the-job training to trainees for enhancing their work skills, experience and credentials to brighten up their employment prospects
Background of Applicants
Young people aged between 15 and 24 with educational attainment at sub-degree or below level
More than 70% trainees possess Form 5 or above qualifications
They are energetic and trainable. What they are waiting for is a job opportunity to enhance their job skills and work experience

What is the On-the-job Training of YWETS?

Training Objectives It aims at enhancing the trainees’ employability, work experience and job skills so as to brighten up their employment prospects.
Training Period 6 to 12 months
Employment Relationship established between the Employers and the Trainees during the training period? YES
Any Salary to be provided by the Employers to the trainees? YES
(During the training period, the trainees are engaged as employees. A monthly training subsidy of $2,000 would be paid to the employers for engaging a trainee during on-the-job training period by the Scheme Office)
Any Mentor assigned during Training YES
(The employers are requested to appoint experienced staff to act as “mentors” for guiding the trainees' daily work)
Do Employers need to keep contact with Case Managers? YES (Employers are requested to keep contact with the case managers on providing support to trainees for better performance at work)
Arrangement by the Employers upon Completion of Training
  • The employers are requested to issue certificate to the trainees specifying the skill attained and the employment period upon completion of training.
  • The employers are encouraged to offer further employment to the trainees with satisfactory performance.

Enjoying full range of support services from YWETS

Employers offering training vacancies and appointing on-the-job mentors to trainees can enjoy a full range of support services from YWETS:

  • Simply engaging a trainee and providing him with on-the-job training, you are entitled to a monthly training subsidy of $2,000 throughout the training period
  • Being the trainee’s mentor, your staff can enjoy a free training kit and a workshop on mentoring skills
  • Follow-through counseling support services are available from case managers for you to build up good relationship with trainees

  • A designated account manager provides you with full support services, ranging from filling of order form, formulation of training plan, screening of trainees, arrangement of interviews to follow-up services after engaging a trainee etc
